3D Page Inspector in Firefox

By accident I just discovered the new 3D Page Inspector in Firefox 11. This is a cool feature for web developers and -designers. A very awesome and intuitive way to analyse websites.

Here are two videos, the first one shows what it does and also shows another nice feature. The second one shows how you can „abuse“ this new page inspector. And I’m really looking forward to people doing this!

If you already got Firefox 11 and a computer that supports the feature, you can check out that demo yourself.

Recap Week 2012-12

I thought, I could do some (semi-)weekly recap of the past week, just for fun and to write something more (we all know where this will probably lead, but hey, let’s be optimistic).

Learned (again): Being nice doesn’t pay off. We did interviews for trainees the week before, but one candidate couldn’t show up due health reasons. Since we couldn’t really decide on a candidate right off the bat, we thought we’d invite the other guy a few days later, so he gets a chance as well and we maybe an option more.

Still not completely healthy he showed up on Tuesday and on the weekend I was sick as well. Joy! I’ve been wondering where the heck I could’ve get that infection, till I finally remembered about that interview on Sunday.

(And we decided on another candidate, but that had nothing to do with the sickness.)

Sneak flick: The Woman in Black – Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) is a young lawyer who lost his wife during childbirth. He leads an overshadowed life ever since, which also rubs off on his son and his job. Been given one last chance by his boss, he travels to a remote village to ready the papers needed to sell off an old manor. But people around here are not happy about this and strange things start to happen, leading to the death of a young girl.

For a horror movie, that one wasn’t so bad. While it uses quite a lot of jump scares, it does not rely on them. In fact, the movie manages to keep up a certain tension most of the time. And even though I’m not sure if Harry Pot… Daniel Radcliffe is playing his role very good or just can’t act, I tend a bit more to him playing it well. So again, for being a horror movie, that one wasn’t so bad. And I am not a fan of horror movies. So if you actually like movies like that, you might spend your money well here.

Fitocracy points: 4066 [400 from quests, slow week, no real workouts on Wednesday and Sunday] (Will be posting this to keep track of it for personal curiosity.)

Regarding this Blog: Well, first off, this is also a test for including my posts here to Facebook. I will not copy comments from one system to another, dues to privacy issues, but every once in a while I want to post a link to this blog and I found an easy way with Add Link to Facebook.

Also decided to repost some older entries. I put effort into them, would be a shame to lose them.

Ready to develop

After my server crash (thanks again for that, Hosteurope) I was able to recover everything from the former blog from my personal backups. Everything? Well, no. There was one draft I’ve been working on, that’s gone. It should’ve been an ongoing list of something, well, more about that some other time. Anyway, conclusion of that was, I will code a PHP application instead. Say goodbye to my spare time!

So let’s see:

  • Local XAMPP running [check]
  • Production server to be running [check]
  • Subversion ready [check]
(Let it never be said, that I’m not ready to commit. And yeeees, I know there are other great revision control systems, but I happen to like Subversion and have been using it for a long time. Besides, old people adopt harder.)
  • Skipping caffeine-free lent [check]

So let’s do this. Been a long time since I’ve been working on a larger application.

(I know, this is a totally uninformative, useless and uninteresting post for most people. Deal with it.)

Be like a Panda? NO!

Copyright: Unknown; License: Unknown; Source: http://taki183.wordpress.com/2012/02/28/be-like-a-panda/Be like a panda? The Giant Panda is a lazy creature, not very clever. They mostly feed themselves on something they can’t digest well, meaning they have to eat and shit all day. They don’t breed very well, it’s almost like they want to go extinct. And on top of it, they are the tool of the quite dubious Panda Diplomacy of the Chinese government.

Destroy racism, yes! But don’t be like a panda!

Edit: Okay, sometimes it’s okay to be like a panda.

Like Phoenix…

… this blog is rising from the ashes… again.

Well, let’s see… my last entry in the old blog was about 1.5 years old. I guess I wasn’t quite up to date with it. Will not promise anything, but maybe this time I’ll keep up again.

Like last time, I will not restrict myself by language and post in English and German, depending on the topic or my mood. Deal with it. Maybe I’ll do an occational post in Japanese as well, if I ever get good enough with that.

The topics will be as random as usual. Computer stuff, movie reviews, ranting and maybe something about my new addiction fitness.

I don’t think I’ll repost a lot of stuff from the former blogs, but then again, we’ll see.
