Okay, some more details about that: If you follow the instructions, you’ll get an installation of the GNU/Linux distribution Debian. One of the best and most stable Linux distributions out there, so it’s a good choice.

If you’re unsure about ditching Windows, but still want to take a look at Linux, you might want to try Ubuntu. You can boot this system from a CD and work just with that. Ubuntu is based on Debian, so you get about the same great system, just a bit more user friendly. And if you find a liking in it, just click the Install button on the desktop and you’ll be guided through an easy installation. (After that it’ll be way faster than in CD mode.) Hey, it’s so easy, I could even let my parents do it.
